"Bacchus's Lament"
This one of a kind piece was inspired by the story of Bacchus and Amethyst. Mythology tells of an
irritated Bacchus (the god of wine) cursing the next person to cross his path, vowing they would
be devoured by lions. As Fate would have it, the unlucky soul was a beautiful and innocent
Amethyst, who, upon seeing the lions charging her, prayed to Diana for assistance. Diana turned
her to alabaster, thus saving her from the lions' violence. Realizing he had ended a pure, young
life , Bacchus poured his deep-colored wine over the alabaster, turning it a shade of purple we
now call amethyst. 4" long, large disc is 2" wide. On 16" sterling chain.
